Haven Point Tri

Congratulations to all CFRT members who braved the elements to race this weekend – it was tough out there guys!

Kicking off early on Sunday morning, the new Haven Point Triathlon proved to be a big hit in the local racing scene – closed roads and promises of a fast course attracting 250 competitors on the day. This was a fantastic opportunity for Coalfields to represent locally, with 10 of our members out racing and plenty of support out there for the team despite poor conditions! Unfortunately Mike Wallace had to pull out on the run due to severe cramp, leaving Dave Wallace and Paul Somerville to fight it out for fastest CFRT member home. Dave had an excellent lead from the swim (4th fastest swim of the day in 5:39 for 400m – brilliant!); Paul managed to take 2 mins out of Dave's 3 minute lead with an excellent bike split, and made up a little time on the run, but eventually finished just behind Dave in the overall standings (11th and 12th place – 6th and 7th placed seniors). Great effort!

Next home in 26th place was Jen Batey – taking 2nd place lady behind sister Nat for the second week/event in a row! – with Gary Maddison finishing not far behind in an excellent first triathlon performance (33rd O/A, 18th senior). Rounding out the boys' team for this week were Sean Harrion (47th place, 18th Vet) and Andrew Somerville, sneaking under the 1hour 15 mark in a final finishing time of 1:14:50. Final CFRT female finishers of the day were sisters Lisa Irving (16th Female/ 9th senior) and Linda Brewis (47th Female/ 24th senior), rounding out a family affair alongside sister Emma. Great work all.

Special mention also to Charlotte Walker, getting out there to race after supporting Garry through his last 3 years of racing. Fantastic first event, hope you've caught the bug! On to Nottingham next with the WAGs team J
