Weekend Roundup

Another great weekend was had this week by coalfields athletes, both locally and further afield!

Not just great results and some more podium stepping to be had, but some massive personal achievements.  In true coalfields style, being committed and focused right through to the end!

First off on Sunday morning was Garry Walker, racing for the third year running now down at the Grendon Sprint Triathlon! With the previous two years being European and world championship qualifying events and in balmy sunshine, this year promised so much! And it rained!!! It blew a gale and the once sheltered lake resembled Newbiggin for those of you fortunate to be there two years ago!

Ok well not quite as bad but bad alright!!! Slicing two minutes off his swim time from last year Garry was off to a great start.  A strong bike and comfortably sustained run resulted in 10th overall and 1st place on the podium in his age category by 2 mins!
Meanwhile, Shortly after, Keith Sutton was diving into the 50m open water pool at Banbury!  13th overall and 5th in a very competitive V40 age category was certainly nothing to complain about.

Up in the North East, we were once again represented in force by Mick Lavender, Matty Davison, Gavin Richardson, and Jenn Batey at Alnwick.  To come away with a Second for Mick, and a brace of 3rds for Matry and Jenn is yet another fabulous result showing strength in depth across the board. Marty was not only 3rd overall but 1st Junior on the day which is brilliant.  Jenn swam 2 extra lengths and would have certainly been in with a shout had she not and a great performance saw Gav finishing 7th Senior (14th overall)

Well done once again to everyone good luck and keep training hard!
