Local racing weekend 03/08/14

Congratulations to all who raced, and big thanks to all who were out supporting in orange and blue again this weekend; Sunday was yet another great example of the team spirit that makes CFRT a special club to be part of!

Kicking off with an early 7:30am start, conditions were thankfully sunny and dry for this year's Sun City Tri, keeping the bike course safer than in recent memory. However, the combination of a windy day and a seas-swim against the current got this event off to a tough start for CFRT representatives Jen Batey, Michael Wallace and Mark Cullen! Despite a difficult swim, all 3 athletes put out excellent performances, all hitting the event's top 30 and coming in under 1:08 on this sprint distance course. Michael Wallace was first home in 9th place, coming in under the hour mark in 59:37 - despite claims afterwards of having a bad race. Jen was next home as second lady, just behind sister Natalie – another excellent outing from the Batey sisters – with Mark finishing in 29th O/A 6th in age category just a few minutes later in 1:07:02. Great stuff everyone!

Next up were the racers at Redcar – a somewhat more leisurely start time of 11:30am and the closed-road racing being a strong draw for this event. Once again, excellent performances were had all around in this event – all 3 athletes finishing in the top 15 in a very competitive race. Gavin Sword was first CFRT member and first V50 home, coming 12 O/A, closely followed by Gav Thompson (14th O/A, 6th V40). Matty Davison rounded out an excellent first season in 15th place as first Junior.

Top performances everyone! Now looking forward to another upcoming weekend of racing as the season starts to round off J
